The Austin Wind Symphony's Vision
The Austin Wind Symphony is a non-profit organization that provides musicians from Austin and the surrounding areas an opportunity to take part in an active performing ensemble that is dedicated to performing the challenging scores of film, video games and television.
The Austin Wind Symphony was organized to serve the community with a musical organization that provides entertainment and cultural enrichment promoting and renewing interest in the great music and composers of motion pictures!
On March 25th, 2008 they expanded their horizons by recording the action score for the animated short "Pigeon Impossible" directed by Lucas Martell, and the members continue to perform at Bob Bullock IMAX film releases (Star Trek), Book release parties (Harry Potter at "Bookpeople"), and other public venues throughout Austin.
Going into their 2009-2010 season, The Austin Wind Symphony will enhance each of its concerts by adding a classical piece to its film music repretoire, in an effort to illustrate to the audience how that particular piece has influenced a modern film score. Continuing the message of education through entertainment, this is a huge step foward to bridge the gap between Classical and Modern Film music.
Born in Bristol Tennesee, Phillips grew up in Dallas Texas, and has been conducting his own ensemble since age 14.
In 2003 he was music director for the Garland Civic Theatre's musical review, "Grand Night for Singing". In addition to conducting, Phillips has penned 13 original scores for theatre, and in 2006 with the blessing of the legendary Alexander Courage, he composed original music for "Star Trek: New Voyages" starring Walter Koenig.
In 2005 he founded the Austin Wind Symphony, where he shares in both his passions: Working with a live ensemble, and conducting film music.
The Austin Wind Symphony is a 501(c)(3) organization.
